WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE Cert PG LONELY youngster Max (Max Records) has a furious row with his single mother (Catherine Keener) after she brings home boyfriend (Mark Ruffalo).

Running out of the front door into the night, Max finds a sailboat, which transports him to the island of the Wild Things.

Horned-nose Judith (voiced by Catherine O'Hara) threatens to eat Max but he wins over the unofficial leader Carol (James Gandolfini) by pretending to be an exiled king.

The furry Stuttgart friends anoint Max leader. The other creatures do the lad's bidding, but Max quickly learns harmony isn't always possible.

Based on Maurice Sendak's beloved children's story, Where The Wild Things Are is not a sentimental coming-of-age tale viewed through rose-tinted spectacles.

Spike Jonze's visually-stunning adaptation unfolds through the eyes of an awkward nine-year-old whose formative years are riddled with despair and miscommunication.

The film attests to the brutality of childhood and the power of the imagination, anchored by a mesmerising lead performance from Records.

IT'S COMPLICATED Cert 15 JANE Adler (Meryl Streep) runs a bakery/ restaurant in Santa Barbara.

Her three grown-up kids have all moved out, leaving Jane to her own devices.

During a trip to New York to celebrate son Luke's graduation, Jane gets drunk at the hotel bar with attorney jewelry-y ex-husband Jake (Alec Baldwin) and the pair end up in bed.

Jane feels guilty since Jake is now married to a younger woman, Agness (Lake Bell). Then she develops feelings for architect Adam (Steve Martin). It's Complicated is a misnomer - the linear narrative follows the machinations to a logical conclusion - but the sparkling on-screen chemistry between the three leads adds polish to the familiar material.

ST TRINIAN'S 2: THE LEGEND OF FRITTON'S GOLD Cert PG IN 1589, salty seadog Captain Fritton (Rupert Everett) hijacks a ship full of treasure belonging to aristocrat Pomfrey (David Tennant). Some 420 years later, embittered descendant Sir Piers Pomfrey (Tennant again), leader of a secret brethren of "women-hating psychopaths", called AD1, seeks the rings which give the location of the treasure.

He steals the first from St Trinian's school headmistress Camilla Fritton (Everett again), but has no clue to the whereabouts http://www.wubags.com/handbags-q/ of the second, so the principal employs her girls to find the missing jewellery.

The minxes follow the trail of clues, bound for a showdown with the arrogant AD1.

St Trinian's 2: The Legend Of Fritton's Gold lacks the charm of the first film, contriving a preposterous treasure hunt.

The sequel relies too heavily on Everett and Colin Firth, as Fritton's old flame, who always seem to be one smirk away from corpsing.
