NEW DELHI: Raids were conducted at three outlets of an high-end gift store at Janpath and Defence Colony on Friday as they were selling T-shirts relica rolex with fake logos of the Commonwealth Games. A travel agency in Karol Bagh was also found to be using the logo on a bus.
The raids were ordered by Delhi high court following an application filed by the organising committee of the Games along with evidence on how its logo and trademark symbols like mascot Shera were being infringed in violation of the intellectual property rights.
The OC has been dragging its feet on the release of its signature merchandise. The OC said the original merchandise, including T-shirts, stuffed toys and key chains, will be launched sometime next week.
The OC in its application to the HC named 11 people and gave the addresses of their outlets or e-mail IDs. The HC had appointed a local commissioner to accompany the raiding teams that swooped down the three outlets of the store, 1469. Two of these outlets were located at Janpath.
The sleuths found a mannequin in the show window of 1469 sporting a Wallet Replica white T-shirt with the fake Games logo. Fifteen T-shirts were found on the shelves of one outlet. In another outlet of the same chain on the other end of Janpath, the sleuths found 17 such T-shirts. At the Defence Colony outlet of 1469, eight T-shirts were seized.
An employee at the Janpath outlet said the T-shirts were being sold at Rs 425 each. The fake merchandise was up for sale for over 10 days. The T-shirts were produced as there was demand for the product from customers, the employee said. The label on the T-shirt indicated that it was produced by the store and hence, there was bound to be more stock, the police said.
A fourth police team went to Suriendra Travels on New Rohtak Road in Karol Bagh which used the Games logo on one of its buses. While the team did not find the bus, but it collected the details of the bus since there was evidence in the form of pictures.
Fake Replica Bell&Ross Watches Watches The OC has apprised the HC of other cases where attempts have been made to infringe upon the logos and the official website for the Games. A hotel in Rajendra Place was found to be using the Games logo to sell its travel packages. Similarly, travel agencies have been caught selling tour packages using the Games logo. In these cases, cease and desist notices were issued by the OC legal team.
Meanwhile, on the issue of delay in launching of merchandise, secretary-general OC CWG, Lalit Bhanot, said. "There are a number of private licencees involved in bringing out the merchandise. The soft launch of the signature products will be sometime next week," Bhanot said.
