AS A Royal Marine of the Second World War he found himself posted to Italy, Holland and Germany.

But these days Frederick Luff MBE does not get around as much as he used to - to the benefit of Truro's Royal British Legion.

So it is only now, at the age of 87, that he has finally been allowed to retire as treasurer of the city's services' charity.

And to mark his 20 years of loyal work he has been awarded one of the RBL's highest honours, the Gold Badge. To qualify members must give "at least eight years meritorious and conspicuous service to the objectives of the Legion.

Mr Luff said: "It's a great honour."

He received the badge from Truro branch chairman Chris Jackson.
